PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN PROJECT

For a culminating project, for our Election Unit, we will be running a campaign and election.  Each major political party will be represented and you, as students and citizens, will elect a candidate for president and vice president.  The following are your group and individual requirements:



Political Parties:

Democrats
Republicans
Libertarian Party
Green Party 




Group Project:

Blog:  Each group is responsible for creating their own party blog. Each blog must include:

1. Platform - a statement of party beliefs and outline of policy initiatives
a. You must go to the official national website for your political party - look through their platform and pick 5 planks (or issues) that YOUR campaign wants to run on.
b. Please write up your planks using your own words NOT CUT AND PASTE

2. Biography of Candidates
a. You must write up a biography for both the President and Vice President
b. Address how the life story of your candidate represents the core values of your party and/or platform issues
c. Credentials/resume type information
d. YOU MAY NOT MAKE UP FALSE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CANDIDATE

3. Speeches
a. Both the President and Vice President must write a 3 minute speech to present on election day
b. Speeches must present candidates position on at least three issues
c. A transcript of the speech must be posted on the blog
d. Each speech must include a quote from a current influential member of your selected party

4. Propaganda
a. Include 3 examples of propaganda techniques:(Glittering Generalities, Card Stacking, Testimonial, Bandwagon, Plain Folks). NO NAME CALLING
b. Any handmade propaganda needs to be photographed and posted on the blog for credit
c. Possible formats for propaganda: Flyers, posters, banners, buttons
EXTRA CREDIT: Create a 30 Second campaign commercial

Below is a famous piece of propaganda used in the 1964 Goldwater vs. Johnson election.
It is known as the 'daisy' add and brought negative campaigning to new levels.

With the use of visuals and a creative format the blog engages the viewer in a highly effective manner covering all required components in a thorough and sophisticated manner. 

With the use of visuals and a creative format the blog informs the viewer in an effective manner covering all required components.
With the use of visuals and a simplistic format the blog struggles to clearly inform the viewer in an effective manner. Some required components are missing.
With the use of limited visuals the selected format for the blog fails to communicate with the viewer.  Most/all required components are missing.
